Saturday Night Concert

Last year saw the weekend go from strength to strength. Whilst still a festival for the pickers we once again had our Saturday night concert in the Marquee which was amazing.

This year we have 2 bands on the Saturday night marquee stage, a brand new band `The Dirty Rounders` who will be supported by the new line up of Bresfest favourites `Run For Cover`.

Kevin Shannon's crew will start off the proceedings early evening with the talented and experienced band of musicians that in addition to Tony Kidd, Ruth and Carl Rogers, now includes Jo Williams on Fiddle. (Jo is also our fiddle workshop tutor on Saturday Morning).

Saturday Night Concert Headline Act

Following `Run For Cover` will be our headline act. All the way from the north of England the newly formed, extremely talented and experienced musicians that are now known as `The Dirty Rounders`. The scene is set for a great session of Bluegrass from the members of the group who are well known on the Bluegrass scene. Her first experience of Bluegrass was the theme to The Beverly Hillbillies which started her off in her Bluegrass music career.

Andy Lawrenson - Violinist

He also plays a wonderful Gypsy Jazz style.

Phil Stott - Vocals and Mandolin

Phil is a multi-instrumentalist and vocalist and is extremely well know over many years in UK Bluegrass circles. Commencing with pop bands in the 60's as a Folkie in the 70's and then a Jazzer. He has been playing Bluegrass since the 80's.

Alistair McIlroy - Vocals and Banjo

Another fine multi-instrumentalist and a supporter of British Bluegrass for 30+ years, he states he has been trying to play the banjo for similar time, but don't let that fool you he is extremely accomplished with an eclectic mix of musical influences including Frank Zappa, Deep Purple, Earl Scruggs and Tony Trishka.

Jack Foster – Vocals and Guitar

Graduate of the Newcastle Folk and Traditional music degree. He's been playing guitar in multiple styles including Bluegrass, Trad and Jazz since he was 13. His style of flatpicking involves all of these elements. He is the organiser and leader of the Rochdale Bluegrass Session and he posts his music on Instagram at 'miamijackmusic'.

So, we are set for a great night of music in the marquee.

So the plan is to complete the concert by 9pm, (ish) – timings are always flexible - then paving the way for all sessions to continue wherever space can be found.

A short time later the marquee will be the venue for the `The Big Bluegrass Session’, hosted by the ever popular Kevin Shannon. Helsby's seasoned and experienced session leader, singer and player who invites you all to join him in his unmissable mix of Bluegrass Classics, old and new. Last year Kevin's session was extremely well attended and due to the great and positive feedback has led to this being a regular feature at Bresfest. All levels are welcomed to join Kevin for the session which goes well into the late hours.
